Winning Coats of the Season

The current trends have embraced versatility and wearability for outerwear this season. Unlike previous seasons, in which a singular standout style emerges, sound investments trumps thrills when selecting a coat. The classics reign supreme this autumn, with stylish silhouettes in standout colors or paired with luxurious details.

Preppy Pieces
Preppy silhouettes, such as pea coats, with touches of the retro persuasion also scored points on the runway. Classic double-breasted styles, like BB Bakota’s Karlyn Jacket, and sack silhouettes scored points for sophisticated design with the addition of luxurious detail. eryn brinié’s 1950’s style coat is finished with a cozy fur collar.

Camel & Neutral Hues

Style icons have long embraced the eternally chic camel coat and the array of winners this fall gives further reason to rationalize the purchase of this appealing classic. This season, the most utilitarian, most wearable coats, are considered the most fashionable of all. BB Dakota’s Lamarr Camel Trench Coat is the ideal neutral-hued staple for the season. With a removable fur collar and zippers on the sleeves, the camel trench scores points for both pragmatism and style.

Winter White
For those who like to make a strong statement in an understated, but immaculate way, a winter white coat is effortlessly elegant in any style. BB Dakota’s Karlyn Jacket is classically tailored in winter white, giving the jacket a clean aesthetic.

Fur Finishes
Fur is in full effect this season – both real and faux. Fur can be seen from head-to-toe on the runways and is considered to be the ultimate luxury this season. If the idea of wearing fur on your bag and boots to be overwhelming, a more demure direction is relegating fur to cozy collars on chic, loose shapes like eryn brinié’s fur collar jacket or plush faux fur vests paired with fitted motorcycle jackets, such as Plastic Island’s Moto Crop Bomber.

Brand Highlight: GANT Rugger

As preppy makes its return to the forefront of the men’s fashion, it comes as no surprise that the All-American heritage sportswear brand GANT is also making a huge comeback. The preppy style is no longer limited to the Ivy League campus grounds; it has become an iconic American way of dressing accessible to everyone. The revival of this style, called “new prep,” reinterprets the classics from the 1960’s and 70’s, such as Oxford shirts and navy blue blazers with gold buttons, with a modern European influence in fit and design.

Representing the new generation of prep, GANT Rugger has gained cult status since the re-launching of the brand in the United States in 2006. It has rapidly grown in popularity as an upscale sportswear label that offers the quintessential collection of well-selected plaids, old-loom shirts and vintage washes from their archives. The GANT Rugger collection has that effortless cool that embodies American heritage sportswear.

Be sure to stop by Rue 14 this Friday for Fashion’s Night Out and check out the GANT Rugger collection for yourself. Also, meet John Thornley, lead singer of local band U.S. Royalty and featured in this season GANT Rugger’s 2010 campaign.
