Rue 14's Holiday Gift Guide

We at Rue 14 know how difficult Christmas shopping can be, so we decided to make your life a little bit easier this season..introducing our Holiday Gift Guide!

Let start with the most difficult person to shop for..Dad. This year why not try an updated plaid shirt? This one by Gant is vintage reproduction, so it is sure to bring back memories of his favorite college shirts.

Now that we have gotten Dad taken care of, let's move on to Mom. We think she'll love this Eryn Brinie puffy jacket. It is warm, gorgeous, and she is sure to love the leather detailing. A great look on or off the slopes.

For the brother(s), you cannot go wrong with an Ever hoodie. This is going to be his next favorite hoodie. He is never going to take it off. Trust us.

And last but certainly not least for sis, we suggest either a piece of jewelry (silver, gold, leather, we've got it all) or a knit set like this one from Christy's. It's cute together, or worn separately.
For more holiday shopping tips, please come by. We look forward to seeing you, and we won't be playing Christmas music.

Semi-precious metals

Rue 14 just received our first delivery of Nashelle jewelry and we are charmed by the beautifully constructed collection of necklaces and earrings. All of Nashelle’s jewelry is handmade to order and Nashelle pride’s itself on creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces that are classic and modern-chic.

It’s no surprise that Nashelle jewelry is sought after by celebs and non-celebs alike. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and made entirely of recycled semi-precious metals, including 14kt gold fill and recycled sterling silver, and natural gemstones. In addition to clean details, bold designs and beautiful construction, Nashelle jewelry is conscious of the earth and its resources. Nashelle jewelry is a favorite of Sheryl Crow, Lauren Conrad and Amy Adams and has graced the pages of publications such as Lucky, In Style, People and Life & Style to name a few.

Nashelle jewelry is elegant and alluring, and each piece uses fabulous gemstones in unexpected ways. We think the delicate shapes and flirty details make this collection the perfect everyday jewelry. One look and we think you’ll agree.

Winning Coats of the Season

The current trends have embraced versatility and wearability for outerwear this season. Unlike previous seasons, in which a singular standout style emerges, sound investments trumps thrills when selecting a coat. The classics reign supreme this autumn, with stylish silhouettes in standout colors or paired with luxurious details.

Preppy Pieces
Preppy silhouettes, such as pea coats, with touches of the retro persuasion also scored points on the runway. Classic double-breasted styles, like BB Bakota’s Karlyn Jacket, and sack silhouettes scored points for sophisticated design with the addition of luxurious detail. eryn brinié’s 1950’s style coat is finished with a cozy fur collar.

Camel & Neutral Hues

Style icons have long embraced the eternally chic camel coat and the array of winners this fall gives further reason to rationalize the purchase of this appealing classic. This season, the most utilitarian, most wearable coats, are considered the most fashionable of all. BB Dakota’s Lamarr Camel Trench Coat is the ideal neutral-hued staple for the season. With a removable fur collar and zippers on the sleeves, the camel trench scores points for both pragmatism and style.

Winter White
For those who like to make a strong statement in an understated, but immaculate way, a winter white coat is effortlessly elegant in any style. BB Dakota’s Karlyn Jacket is classically tailored in winter white, giving the jacket a clean aesthetic.

Fur Finishes
Fur is in full effect this season – both real and faux. Fur can be seen from head-to-toe on the runways and is considered to be the ultimate luxury this season. If the idea of wearing fur on your bag and boots to be overwhelming, a more demure direction is relegating fur to cozy collars on chic, loose shapes like eryn brinié’s fur collar jacket or plush faux fur vests paired with fitted motorcycle jackets, such as Plastic Island’s Moto Crop Bomber.

There’s no need to be carrying your dowdy winter coat this fall when Rue 14 carries the most stylish coats and jackets for when the temperature dips

Brand Highlight: GANT Rugger

As preppy makes its return to the forefront of the men’s fashion, it comes as no surprise that the All-American heritage sportswear brand GANT is also making a huge comeback. The preppy style is no longer limited to the Ivy League campus grounds; it has become an iconic American way of dressing accessible to everyone. The revival of this style, called “new prep,” reinterprets the classics from the 1960’s and 70’s, such as Oxford shirts and navy blue blazers with gold buttons, with a modern European influence in fit and design.

Representing the new generation of prep, GANT Rugger has gained cult status since the re-launching of the brand in the United States in 2006. It has rapidly grown in popularity as an upscale sportswear label that offers the quintessential collection of well-selected plaids, old-loom shirts and vintage washes from their archives. The GANT Rugger collection has that effortless cool that embodies American heritage sportswear.

Be sure to stop by Rue 14 this Friday for Fashion’s Night Out and check out the GANT Rugger collection for yourself. Also, meet John Thornley, lead singer of local band U.S. Royalty and featured in this season GANT Rugger’s 2010 campaign.

Pretty Classy

We just received our highly anticipated shipment of Black Halo dresses. Let me tell you they do not disappoint.

The Jackie-O is considered iconic by the fashion industry and is the dress of choice amongst Hollywood starlets. It’s been worn by Scarlett Johanssen, Kim Kardashian, Taraji Henson, Kelly Rippa, Leighton Meester, Tyra Banks, Julie Benz and Alyssa Milano on the red carpet this year alone!

The Sidney and Laurie style mini dresses made their debut on the runways in 2010.

The Sydney is a stunning mini dress with two ties that detail the halter neck and low-cut back, styled with a high-shine, woven blouson top and fitted, matte-finish knit skirt.

The Laurie is a draped cap sleeved mini dress featuring an exaggerated cowl neckline with asymmetrical tiers beneath waistline.

Both are super sexy minis perfect for cocktail-parties, glamorous events, dancing at clubs and can be paired with metallic flats or platform heels.

Black Halo’s classic designs incorporate unique silhouettes, innovative draping techniques and flattering lines that accentuate women’s best features. I plan on owning at least two (although I love all three).

Japanese Selvedge Denim Forever.

As fall approaches nothing excites me more in menswear than Japanese selvedge denim. Fashion can be a fickle being and a lot of trends are in one moment and out the next. Japanese selvedge denim stands above the rest in an overly saturated denim market and it has emerged as the crème de la crème.
Since our opening days we have been carrying a line called Naked and Famous Jeans. Manufactured in Canada out of raw Japanese selvedge denim, these jeans are known for their great fits and the unique fabrics that they use. Naked and Famous consider themselves as a gateway brand to the avant-garde world of Japanese selvedge denim, and have been doing so well for us that we here at Rue 14 are stoked to bring you Edwin Jeans this fall.
Up until recently Japanese selvedge denim jeans could only be found at specialty stores in New York City or Los Angeles, but with the growing menswear market and its demands for quality, good Japanese denim has becomes a staple. In essence, Japanese selvedge denim jeans are meticulous reproductions of America jeans from the 1950s and 60s, the ones that cowboys and miners would wear day after day. With all the bells and whistles like hidden rivets, these selvedge denim jeans are built to last a lifetime.
This style of denim jeans takes more time to create and is much more costly in production. Vintage American shuttle looms used to produce the denim fabric make it not only tighter and more durable but also cause the material to be naturally irregular. These irregularities are what allow for the unique fading that has become synonymous with Japanese selvedge denim. Selvedge denim, also, tends to be heavier and sturdier. The edges of the fabric are sealed shut, normally with a color thread, during the weaving process creating a “self edge.” This signature detail can be easily spotted on a rolled-up cuff, a telltale sign of quality construction.
The vintage American shuttle looms that create these amazing fabrics were sold to Japan during the 1980s after many of the America denim manufacturers made the switch to projectile looms, a cheaper and faster way to produce a lower quality denim fabric. So while America has moved to mass production, the Japanese have become obsessed with the reproduction of the classic American denim jeans. Japanese selvedge denim has much to do with American heritage; being both retro and futuristic it is a trend that is bound to stand the test of time in the world of fashion.

You can never own too much Rich and Skinny...

When Michael Glasser, founder of Seven for All Mankind and Citizen of Humanity denim, and Joie Rucker, former owner of the brand Joie, got together in 2006, they sought to create a denim line women would want to wear because of how the jeans would make them look and feel. Rich and Skinny is known among high-end retailers for their comfortable, flattering fabrics, luxurious details and incredibly sexy fits.

Rich and Skinny sets itself apart from all other denim brands by offering the latest washes in denim, exciting details, such as buttons inspired by a vintage Cartier men’s cufflink, and inside trim and pocketing that is silk lined, all of which add to the beauty and richness of the line.

Each season, Rich and Skinny offers new fashion styles to watch out for. For fall, Rich and Skinny’s take on the cargo pants trend is sexy, cool and very feminine. Their low-rise cargo crop is made of the softest silk, and feels luxurious to the touch. The signature silver R logo button, button fly, side cargo pockets and adjustable silk bottom ties make their cargo pant more alluring and glamorous than other styles.

Come by Rue 14 to try the latest denim and silks in Rich and Skinny line, with each silhouette as sexy and comfortable as the next!

Just in...Dan Eldon Tee Shirts

From the creators of Ever, one of Rue 14’s favorite labels comes a new line of tee shirts inspired by activist Dan Eldon’s creative journals.

Eldon was a photojournalist for Reuters who was killed on assignment in Somalia in 1993. He was 22-years-old at the time of his death and is remembered as an artist, adventurer and activist. His mother founded the Dan Eldon Creative Visions Foundation to support “creative activists,” like her son, who use media and arts to address social, economic and humanitarian issues. The foundation provides grants and mentorship programs. Half the proceeds from all sales of the collection go towards Creative Visions.

Also when you are in the store don’t forget to check out the Ever Relieve Haiti t-shirts. These tees not only have an amazing hand, but they also are for good causes.
